Medically Reviewed By Dr. Ivey

Dental implants have evolved so much over recent years, that many Aurora residents have had their lives changed because of them. They are able to have confidence and pride in their new smile and appearance that was once lost due to diseased or missing teeth. Dental implants are a great option for tooth replacement because they come in all shapes, sizes, and types. Just like no two mouths are the same, no two dental implant procedures are the same. Dr. Ivey is able to customize each set of dental implants to meet the specific needs of each of his patients. If tooth replacement is in your future, keep reading to learn about the different types of dental implants offered at Ivey Oral & Facial Surgery.

Main Types of Dental Implants

Many people choose dental implants because they know they’re the optimal tooth replacement system on the market. But often, Aurora residents believe this is because all dental implants fuse to the jawbone. While this is true for one type of dental implant, there is another dental implant type that avoids the jawbone altogether. The main type of dental implants used at Ivey Oral & Facial Surgery are:

Endosteal: This is the most common type of dental implant and is placed into the jawbone. Endosteal implants are usually made of titanium and are a cylinder, which is the most common and looks like a screw, and which usually has one or more abutments.

Alternatives to Traditional Dental Implants

If you are an Aurora man or woman who is unable, or unwilling to undergo a multi-step dental implant procedure with endosteal or subperiosteal implants, Dr. Ivey may recommend some other dental implant options, such as:

Mini Dental Implants (MDIs): This tooth restoration alternative has the same structure as regular implants, but they are smaller. According to the Mini Dental Implant Centers of America, they are made of two parts – a titanium post with a ball on the end, and a socket with a rubber O-ring that attaches the tooth to the post. MDIs can typically be completed in one visit without any stitches.

All-on-4: This alternative to the main types of dental implants listed above, is a minimally invasive option for achieving a full mouth of new teeth. It utilizes available healthy bone in the jaw, which prevents the need for a bone grafting procedure. All-on-4s are set on four posts on which the entire arch is placed. This replacement option avoids multiple surgeries and can often be completed in one visit.
