If you live in the Aurora area and have finally decided to take the leap and get dental implants, Dr. Ivey is just the man for the job. Dental implants are the most popular option and a quality choice for tooth replacement on the market today. If you have been struggling with the aesthetics of your smile, or if you have loose or missing teeth, Dr. Ivey can restore your pearly whites by placing dental implants. But before your big day, Dr. Ivey wants you to be aware of a few tips on how to prepare for your dental implant surgery.

  1. Be Well-Informed Before Your Surgery

When you visit with Dr. Ivey for your initial dental implant consultation, be sure you ask any and all questions you have about the procedure. No question is too small or insignificant. Dr. Ivey wants each of his patients to be well-informed before making decisions about dental procedures, so he is happy to answer any questions you have. After all, this is the only way you will know what to expect and how to prepare.

2. Plan Ahead

As with any surgery, you’ll need to make plans before you come into Dr. Ivey’s Aurora office for your dental implant procedure. If you will be having IV sedation for your procedure, you will be unable to drive yourself home after your procedure. Make sure you have someone bring you to your appointment, sit in the waiting room while your implants are being placed, and be ready to take you home when Dr. Ivey releases you.

Once you’re resting comfortably at home, you’ll still need to have a little bit of help for a couple of days. Ask friends or family to help take care of your kids, cook a few meals for your family, and pick up around the house. We know how hard it is to ask for help, but you don’t want to put yourself in an unnecessary position where you end up doing too much too soon and end up in more pain than necessary.

3. Follow Your Pre-Op Instructions From Dr. Ivey

One of the most important things you can do to prepare for your dental implant surgery is to follow the pre-op instructions Dr. Ivey provides. Following these instructions to a “T” will ensure you are safe during your procedure and avoid the chance of having your surgery rescheduled.

For Aurora patients who will be having IV sedation, be sure you follow the fasting requirements provided in the pre-op instructions. Do not eat or drink anything within the given timeframe to avoid serious complications during your dental implant surgery.
